CULTURED MINDS
An Investigation of How Culture Affects Decision Making
EXPERIMENT
Following my own advice from the conclusion of my report, I designed a web-based experiment to test cross cultural differences "in the wild". Throught this experiment I hope to make a meaningful contribution to the growing body of work in cross-cultural behavioural science.
Topic & Aims
Through my research I isolated areas which are currently in need of empirical testing/validation.*
One such topic is the propensity to use Analytic versus Holistic-style reasoning, which differs systematically according to individuals’ cultural orientation (see appendix). Evidence for differences in analytic versus holistic-style reasoning and perceptions is robust. The aim of my experiment is not to see whether holistic/analytic type reasoning exists but whether it existis in 'X' circumstances. Thus, my study will help mark the boundaries of the effect.
Experiment Design
*Note that my experiment topic is not one of the areas of 'further research' mentioned in the Further Research page. Further research was recommended into areas with little or no previous experimentation whereas, for practical reasons, my experiment is being done in a domain with a more solid foundation.
