TIGHT/LOOSE

 

 

This more recent cultural construct was suggested by (Gelfand et.al, 2011) following a 33 country study. The dimension distinguishes between countries where social norms are strongly enforced or those where deviant behaviour is more tolerated. Since the construct has only recently been proposed (compared to Hofstede’s or Markus & Kitayama ’s dimensions) the range of literature/papers mentioning or using tight/loose as a dimension is limited.

 

Future findings which incorporate this dimension are anticipated.
