CULTURED MINDS
An Investigation of How Culture Affects Decision Making
CULTURAL ORIGINS
Ancient Chinese (Holistic)
This philosophy assumes cyclical continuity and emphasises the importance of the field (versus object). Thus, the Chinese (and other Eastern cultures influenced by Ancient Chinese philosophy) were concerned with relationships among objects and events (Zhang, 1985).
Ancient Greek (Analytic)
In contrast, the Ancient Greeks (whose thinking influenced much of western thought) were more inclined to focus on the categories and rules that would help them to understand the behaviour of the object independent of its context . (Nakamura, 1964/1985, pp. 185-186).
